Long believed to be tacky jewelry, the nameplate necklace is getting a fresh start. When Sex and the City started in 1998, the main character–Carrie Bradshaw–wore a gold nameplate necklace. Suddenly it wasn’t trashy or tacky–it was in, and it was fabulous. Women everywhere were showcasing their names and nicknames in gold and silver plates around their neck and personalized necklaces were splashed across fashion pages and magazine articles. Eventually the fad died down and the nameplate necklace regressed, mostly anyway, to its former status. On the new series, Carrie’s character wears a simple ‘C’ instead of the full name, but fans of the original series can still find plenty of Carrie necklaces to buy. Read Style Watch
